Usually a single stone (solitaire) or a three stone ring design where the centre stone is slightly bigger than the two shoulder stones. In principle the setting design is timeless, refined, not too busy, elegant.
Bold shapes, often asymmetrical, often unconventional in their choices, contemporary, generally a wider or more chunky design as a rule of thumb, but still refined. .
Leaf shapes, flower motifs, more dainty than bold. Floral design can be incorporated in the metal work of the setting using filigree (fine wire detailing) or in the layout of the stones and stone shapes. Asymmetry works well in floral design.
